The artist calls his style "primitive modern" and is inspired by acient Egyptian and Mayan art as well as pop art. Planas, who was a colorful figure in the New York City 80's art world, was once described by the king of pop art, Andy Warhol, as "...a volcano of uninhibited creative energy..." in Interview Magazine. "As an artist I am intrigued by the mystery of our ancient past civilizations, including the Egyptians, Mayans and pre-Columbian cultures. I have adapted many of the symbols of these cultures and have combined them into my work creating my own iconography. I am constantly creating a language of images. My art directly expresses my life experience. I have no one particular style, but many different voices, and yet there is a unique set of symbols that appears consistently in my works. I am not only creating decorative art pieces, but I am making stong social and political commentary about our modern society." List
