UPDATED MARCH 2001

Jon Planas' dream symbolism is directly related to his Latin American roots and his exposure to American Pop Art. PLanas, who studied film at the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, was directly influenced by the likes of Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Mimo Paladino, Basquiat and some of the graffiti artists like Futura 2000 that emerged during the early part of the eighties.

Egyptian, Mayan and primitive art have been turned into source material for Planas's colorful new mutimedia artworks. The new portrait titled "Pop Boy 2000" is a work on canvas measuring 5'x4' that is a Modrian/Warhol inspired portrait of Planas' painted jacket and Absolut bottle art owner, movie star, Leonardo di Caprio.

Planas will be showcasing his final collection of completed original Absolut bottle art at the NYC Art Expo 2001, begining on March 8th thru the 12th at the Javitz Conventino Center in NYC. He will also be signing his now famous art bottles and posters at the hot NYC club, Spa, on Sat March 10th, with special guest hosts Liz Deringer and Jaqueline Stallone.

"I am launching a seies of limited edition prints... " says the artist who up to now only had been doing original pieces,"...I feel that there is a great demand for more commercial decorative art, and as an artist I want to offer my prints to a larger audience who may not be able to afford one of my original canvas pieces."

The new works reflect a new and stronger sense of Planas' spiritual message, one of peace and tolerance of all people and a great desire for a conscious protection of our enviroment and safety of our planet earth!

Absolut Vodka artists Francesco Clemente and Jon Planas share a special moment at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery in Soho, NYC. Planas, who like Clemente utilizes vivd colors and metaphysical symbolism, is a big fan of the Italian artist who recently had a retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC.
